Lions Edged by Yotes

PORTLAND, Ore. – Friday night at Jim Skagen court held the second time the Lions and Yotes would meet this season, and although this game was closer than the first the Yotes claimed the victory 81-71.

Payton Wangler got things started on the offensive end for the Lions (4-16, 1-12 CCC), knocking down a three-point shot just 34 seconds into the game. However, the Yotes (10-13, 8-6 CCC) found their offensive rhythm through Mackenzie Royce-Radford, and her 10 points in the opening quarter helped the College of Idaho earn a 19-16 lead.

In the second quarter, Erykah Campbell took advantage of the smaller Yotes defenders and collected a stat line of 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists by the half.

Meanwhile, the Yotes looked to Kaylee Krusemark who came off the bench and knocked down two three-pointers to give the Yotes a 46-32 before the break. The Yotes shot the lights out from deep, going 10-21 from the three point line in the first half.

The third quarter was kicked off by a 15-2 run for the Lions, but the Yotes responded with a 12-4 run of their own at the end of the quarter to lead 62-51.

Multnomah played the Yotes physical in the fourth quarter, but in order to get back in the game they had to send the Yotes to the free throw line, where they went 10-of-12 in the final quarter. The Yotes battled their right to a 81-71 victory.

Multnomah was led by their inside presence of Erykah Campbell who stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 blocks. Campbell continues to swat away more shots than any other player as her 3.5 blocks per game leads the entire nation. Portis added 23 points of her own, including going 2-2 from the three-point line.
