Richardson and Balvanz Combine for 32 but Lions Fall to SOU Raiders

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Multnomah University men's basketball team faced off against the Southern Oregon University Raiders on Saturday night, but the Raiders out rebounded the Lions 25-56 on their way to a 75-117 victory. 

The Lions played the Raiders tight for the first ten minutes of the game, leading the Raiders 27-26 with 9:38 to go in the first half, but Tate Hoffman got things going on the offensive end with multiple shots made with under four minutes to go until the half. By halftime, the Raiders had earned a 55-46 lead over the Lions, and Hoffman was nearly at a double-double with 17 points and 7 rebounds.

Jaeden Ingram had been the aggressor for the Lions for most of the first half, scoring all 9 of his points in the first 20 minutes, and the Lions spaced the floor by shooting 8-21 from three in the first half, but Ingram and the Lions cooled off in the second half by shooting only 3-18 from three. 

For the Lions, Grant Balvanz shot 5-10 from downtown and finished with a season high 19 points in his best game at MU, while Zach Richardson and Forrest Smith combined for 28 points.

The Raiders had five players in double figures, including Tate Hoffman who finished with a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds, Jordan Hunt with 19 points, Aaron Borich with 18 points, while Hunter Bradford and Kiefer Edwards each scored 10. 

Up next for the Lions is a home matchup with Portland Bible College, a non-conference game, at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7th.
