Smith Stuffs Stat Line; Lions Defeat PBC

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Multnomah University men's basketball team (7-8, 0-5 CCC) came out of the locker room hungry for a win against the Portland Bible College Wildcats on Tuesday night at Jim Skagen Court.

13 seconds was all it took Forrest Smith to get the Lions on the board, and an assist to teammate Zach Richardson on the following possession let every fan in the building know that the Lions were red hot and rolling. That wasn't the only time Smith would find Richardson for an assist on a made three, as he did yet again with 2:03 left in the first half to give the Lions an eight point lead. Smith and Richardson each ended the half with 11 points and Multnomah went into the locker room with a comfortable 40-25 lead on the Wildcats.

Richardson and Smith would keep things rolling in the second half, and as a team the Lions would dominate the Wildcats 82-57. Perhaps the most memorable moment of the night is when senior point guard Luke Thomas checked into the game, only to pull up and bury a deep 35-foot three to the amusement of the crowd.

But on a night when things were rolling and shots were falling, it was Forrest Smith who ended up being the leader on the floor for the Lions. Smith has accepted his role as a scorer and a play maker for the Lions this season, averaging 12.4 points per game to go along with an impressive 42.3% clip from behind the arc, however tonight he put an emphasis on setting up his teammates for success by dishing out a season-high 6 dimes. In the end, Smith stuffed the stat sheet and finished with his best line of the season so far with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 blocks, and two steals.

Richardson finished as the Lions leading scorer with 22 points and 9 rebounds, and Grant Balvanz joined in on the action by knocking down some deep threes in the second half to finish with 11 points. Stepan Zavydovskyy also produced for the Lions with 8 points and 4 blocks.

The Wildcats ended their night with three players in double figures: Moses Mcewen had 22 points and 9 boards, Allen Talybov had 12 points, and Aaron Deatherage dropped in 10 points of his own.

Up next for the Lions is a road game at Corban University against the 8-9 Warriors at 7:30 PM.
