The Lions Battle Back-and-Forth with the Geoducks but Come Up Short

Portland, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's volleyball team played their first conference game on Friday night against the Geoducks of Evergreen State College. The Lions battled hard but couldn't quite get over the hump as they lost in three (22-25), (24-26), (15-25).

GAME SUMMARY:
  • In the first set of the night the Lions went back and forth with Evergreen state, each team delivering an entourage of hits that would keep the score tight. After a couple of early serving errors by the Lions, Taryn Frey provided a huge spark for their momentum had a couple of powerful kills, the second of which allowed the Lions to tie up the score 12-12. Evergreen state wouldn't go away, and after 5 ties and 3 lead changes with neither team trailing by more than 4 points, the Lions nearly had the victory, but the Geoducks got the best of them (25-22).
  • The second set of the night featured more kills for the Lions, including back-to-back kills by Junior Kamaile Labanon and Freshman Danae Stokes. Once again the teams seemed to match each other with the score being tied 5 times through the set, before Evergreen State scored the final two points and squeaked out a 24-26 victory.
  • The third set leaned the Geoducks way, as they jumped out to an early 7-1 lead and didn't look back, winning (15-25).
