Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Portis Pushes Lions to a 65-58 Victory Over the Bengals

Portland, Ore. - In their last home game for the month of December, the Multnomah University women's basketball team (3-5, 0-2 CCC) battled the University of Maine Fort Kent (4-4) at Jim Skagen Court on Wednesday night. The Lions defense and 19 points from the bench turned out to be the difference in the game, leading them to a 65-58 victory over the Bengals.

Multnomah and UMFK traded basket after basket through most of the game, and with the Lions only leading by 3 points at the half they needed to make their presence in the paint known. Stellar second halves from Alaygza PortisRachelle Tau, and Erykah Campbell did just that and put the Lions over the top.

Alaygza Portis made big play after big play when it counted, finishing the night with a season high 20 points on 7-12 shooting, including 3 three pointers.

Erykah Campbell broke the Multnomah school record for single game rebounds with 21 tonight, to go along with her 8 points and 6 blocks. Campbell continues to be a matchup nightmare for opposing bigs in her best season as a Lion, averaging a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Rachelle Tau made sure that her mark was left on the game with a season high 14 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Bengals played aggressive and scrappy, committing 21 fouls for the night while also forcing the Lions into 30 turnovers. Sanna Jankowski scored a game high 24 points on 10-18 shooting and snagged 8 boards, while teammate Ranika Guyton added 10 points.

Up next, the Lions travel to Forest Grove, Oregon to take on Pacific University on Friday, December 13th at 6:00 PM. Pacific University is 3-2 on the season, but has had impressive wins over Evergreen State and Warner Pacific so far.
