Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Richardson's Hot Hand Leads Lions Past Bengals 113-81

PORTLAND, Ore. – After an unsettling loss to Simpson University last Friday night, the Multnomah University Lions (6-3) showed heart and grit on Saturday afternoon as they bounced back with an impressive 113-81 victory over the Bengals of the University of Maine Fort Kent (3-7).

The Lions turned up their intensity on defense with a full-court press early against the Bengals, forcing them into 10 first-half turnovers and 18 turnovers for the game. The Bengals looked to be getting out-hustled early in the game, and by the time they figured out the Lions press it was too little too late.

Zach Richardson reminded us why he is one of the best shooters in the Cascade Conference, as he hit 10-19 from the three-point line and finished the game with 32 points to lead all scorers.

Stepan Zavydovskyy had perhaps his greatest game as a Lion, nearly getting his first career triple-double while breaking the school block record with an extraordinary stat line of 8 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 blocks.

Justin Martin showed great leadership and composure on the floor, scoring 22 points and dishing out 9 assists while also snagging 5 steals from the Bengals guards.

The Bengals were led by Jacob Powell who scored 17 points. Teammates Micah Petty, Brandon Ruaro, and Logan Miller each added 11 points of their own, and Micah Petty lead the Bengals in rebounding with 15.

Head Coach Curt Bickley shared his thoughts on the Lions performance, "What a great game by Steph! What a way to break the school record for blocks in a game, and Justin and Zach combining for 16 threes was great as well. We shot 91 shots during that game…. My favorite way to play."

The Lions will play their next five games on the road, with the first game being in La Grande at Eastern Oregon University on December 6th at 7:30 PM. The Mountaineers (5-2) are riding a 4 game win streak, but MU has won 3 of their last 4 meetings with EOU, so grab your popcorn and prepare for what should be a must-see game.
