Lions Unable to Match Mountaineers' Size and Fall 88-118

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Multnomah University Men's basketball team faced off against Eastern Oregon University in their first Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup of the year, but the Mountaineers used their size and strength to muscle their way to a 88-118 win over the Lions at Quinn Coliseum on Friday evening.

Justin Martin finished with 33 points on 13-for-27 shooting for the Lions. Forrest Smith had 17 points and four boards and Zach Richardson added 12 points.

Multnomah made 16 three-pointers to hang close with EOU for some time, but the inside presence eventually helped EOU pull away in the second half. The Lions were outscored 65-40 in the second half after trailing by only five at half time. In what was expected to be a high-scoring game, the matchup did not disappoint as both teams played at a high pace for most of the game. The Mountaineers (6-2, 1-0 CCC) used their size advantage in the paint, scoring 80 points.

Big men Landon Jones and Jarek Shetzle led the inside attack for EOU as Jones had 31 points, making 14-of-20 shots with 15 rebounds and five assists. Schetzle also had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Up next for the Lions is a matchup in Caldwell, Idaho with the College of Idaho Yotes on Saturday at 7:30 PM.
