Lions Fall to the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech 0-3

Portland, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's volleyball team looked to challenge the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech on Friday night at Jim Skagen court, but the Hustlin' Owls were prepared for the Lions and won 14-25, 17-25, and 14-25 to snap a six-game losing streak.

THE BASICS:
Final: Multnomah 0, Oregon Tech 3
Records: MU (2-12, 1-12 CCC), OIT (12-10, 5-7 CCC)
Location: Portland, Ore.

GAME SUMMARY:
In the first set, the Lions and Hustlin' Owls went back and forth, and an aced serve by Alyssa Mehalovich brought the score to 4-6, but two points was the closest the Lions would be as OIT went on a 4-11 run to give themselves a 8-17 lead. From there Ashley Ripplinger boosted the Hustlin' Owls with three more kills throughout the remainder of the set as OIT won 14-25.

The second set looked to be the Lions best set of the night, as they tied up OIT 8-8 early on, but several attack errors lead to OIT gaining momentum and stealing the set away from the Lions 17-25.

OIT took control of the third set 2-8 from the start and never looked back, though a bright spot for the Lions were back-to-back aces by Emily Renolds late in the set. The third set was controlled by the Hustlin' Owls 14-25.

Kamaile Labanon lead the Lions with 9 kills, and Taylor Howie added in 8 kills of her own. Amanda Holm racked up 15 assists, and the Lions as a team finished the night with 18 digs.

For OIT, Ashley Ripplinger finished the night with 6 kills, as did her teammate Nicole Reyes. Jamie Toedtemeire and Courtney Isom both finished with 12 assists in an all-around effort for the Hustlin' Owls.

FROM THE COACH:
"We put up a really good fight tonight and put some pressure on OIT. Unfortunately we couldn't sustain that kind of pressure for the whole match, but there are moments of superb play on both sides of the ball that we are really proud of. Our defensive effort has been excellent, and our whole team is consistently developing and improving."

COMING UP NEXT:
The Lions will be home again tomorrow night at 5:00 PM as they face-off against the Raiders of Southern Oregon University who are riding a four-game conference winning streak.
