Lions Go Down Swinging Against SOU

Portland, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's volleyball team looked to challenge the Raiders of Southern Oregon on Saturday night at Jim Skagen court. The Lions came out aggressive and played one of their better games of the season, but Southern Oregon increased their winning streak to five games as they won 10-25,16-25, and 22-25.

THE BASICS:
Final: Multnomah 0, Sothern Oregon 3
Records: MU (2-13, 1-13 CCC), OIT (20-3, 11-2 CCC)
Location: Portland, Ore.

GAME SUMMARY:
Set one was controlled by the Raiders after jumping out to a 21-8 lead and even though Taryn Frey and Kaimaile Labanon both had several impressive kills, the Raiders took set one 10-25.

In the second set the Lions improved and corrected many of the errors that they had made in the first set, and after a Taylor Howie aced serve the Lions were down just one point 14-15. Southern Oregon called a timeout and from that moment on the Raiders went on a 10-2 run to end the game 16-25.

In the third set the Lions put together one of their most impressive sets of the season and jumped out to a 12-7 lead when Kamaile Labanon killed a perfectly set ball from Amanda Holm. From that point, both teams battled back and forth until the score was tied 20-20 from yet another Holm to Labanon connection. A serving error by the Lions followed by an ace from Myla Norvell gave the Raiders the lead back and they closed out the third set 22-25.

The Raiders 39 kills while hitting .500 is what carried them to victory, while the 25 kills from the Lions hitting .143 wasn't quite enough to steal a set from SOU.

For the Lions, Kamaile Labanon ended the game with 9 kills, while Senior Talyor Howie added 8 kills, and Amanda Holm collected 14 assists.

For the Raiders, Taylor Ristvedt lead the team in kills with 10, while Elliot cook added 9 and Makayla Hoyt added in 6 of her own as well. Hannah Bogatin had a game-high 23 assists in an all-out effort for the Raiders.
