PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University men's soccer team held off the visiting Southern Oregon Raiders as long as possible, but a second half serge gave the visitors a 3-0 win over the Lions at Delta Park on Saturday afternoon.
Multnomah (2-5, 0-2 CCC) shut out Southern Oregon in the first half on eight shot attempts, coming up with three shots of their own. Keeper
Manny Guillermo recorded four of his seven saves in the first half as both teams headed to the break in a 0-0 tie.
"I was really proud of the ways the guys played today," said head coach
Tom Stephens. "SOU is a really solid squad and we played them very well through the first half."
Southern Oregon broke the tie in the 51
st minute of the match as Sean McManamon assisted Mitchell Pinney for the first goal of the game. The Raiders would score their next two goals within 14 minutes of the first, when Dakota Scott headed a ball from Ahmon Afenegus in the 54
th minute and Travis Hopkins found his in the 65
th minute.
Southern finished with 20 shots, 10 landing on goal while the Lions tallied six shots with five on goal.
"It was an extremely positive opening weekend to build on in one of the best conferences," continued Coach Stephens.
The Lions return to Delta Park next weekend as they host Rocky Mountain College and College of Idaho.
