INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – Two first half goals were enough for the Multnomah University men's soccer team as they defeated Sierra Nevada College 2-1 on Friday afternoon at the North Tahoe Regional Park.
After scoring his first ever goal for the Lions yesterday versus Simpson, freshman
Fischer Rogers added to his goal total in the 26
th minute, taking a pass from
Michael Kochis to put MU up early in the game.
Rogers totaled three shots in the game while
Austin McKee added three of his own and Kochis finished with two shots. The Lions totaled 11 shots on the day with eight landing on goal.
"A great 3-0 start to our season! Guys played really hard onteh second game of a back to back in the heat and the team is really starting to come together," said head coach
Tom Stephens.
Sierra Nevada found some life in the 40
th minute of the first half, when Antonio Perez took the ball through the MU defense, finding the back of the net to tie the game. SNC tallied 10 shots each period to finish with 20 on the day, nine shots on goal.
The game wasn't tied for long as Kochis took a pass from
Edgar De Los Santos, knocking the ball passed the keeper for the winning goal in the 42
nd minute of the half. Kochis now has three assists and two goals on the year.
Second year keeper
Manny Guillermo kept his team in the lead, recording five second half saves to finish with eight.
"Every guy got some time on the field and all played really well. A great road trip," said Coach Stephens.
The Lions will play one final non-conference game on the road next week as they head to NCAA Division III opponent Whitman College on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
