PORTLAND, Ore. – Northwest Christian had a dominating night down low against Cascade Collegiate Conference opponent Multnomah University on Thursday night, earning 11 blocks and 23 offensive rebounds in a 61-49 victory on Jim Skagen Court.
Hanna Mack accounted for five blocks while adding 10 points and five rebounds for the Beacons (20-9, 12-5 CCC) while
Miranda Schmillen and
Valerie Wakefield led the way for Multnomah (4-21, 2-15 CCC) with 11 points each.
Northwest Christian earned a 55-39 rebounding advantage over the Lions with Andrea Gloss totaling 10 rebounds and Monique Thompson and Chandler Gabrio adding nine rebounds each.
MU kept up with the Beacons, ending the first quarter of play down by four points before finishing the first half down 38-32.
Karissa Cox added seven points for the Lions while
Lacie Kamper finished the night with six points, six rebounds and three blocks.
Katherine Edmonds totaled six points to go along with four rebounds.
"The girls played a fantastic game tonight. Defensively we played one of our better games and everyone truly contributed tonight," said head coach
Tim Bieri.
For the Beacons, Niki Duncan finished with a game high 15 points followed by Thompson with 13 points and five steals.
Northwest Christian began to pull away from the Lions in the third quarter, expanding their lead to 14 points after a 10-2 run. The Beacons held the Lions to a field goal percentage of 14 percent in the third quarter to secure the season sweep of MU.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday night as they welcome in Corban University for their final conference home game of the season.
