TACOMA, Wash. – The Multnomah University women's basketball team recorded their second win over an NCAA Division III school this season, defeating Pacific Lutheran University 69-64 on the road on Tuesday night.
The Lions improve to 2-5 overall on the season, while the Lutes had their home opener spoiled, falling to 0-4 on the year.
Three MU players finished in double digits in points, led by senior guard
Miranda Schmillen who tallied 19 points, adding four assists.
Following her was Milan woods with 15 points and eight rebounds while
Valerie Wakefield totaled 10 points.
Defensively, the Lions hassled the Lutes all night, forcing 27 turnovers while only giving up 13 turnovers themselves. Much of this success was thanks to Woods and Schmillen who tallied nine and six steals respectively.
MU was outscored in the first two quarters of the game, trailing 42-30 heading into halftime. The Lions continued to fight back before closing out the fourth quarter with a 20-8 advantage, the least amount of points MU has allowed in a quarter this season.
Next week opens up Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play for Multnomah who will travel crosstown rival Warner Pacific on Tuesday before traveling to Northwest and Evergreen over the weekend.
