Lions Win Final Home Game of the Year, Defeat Walla Walla 5-0

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University men's soccer team made a statement in the final home game of the 2016 season, defeating Walla Walla University 5-0 on senior night at the Portland Adventist Academy on Saturday night.

MU registered their first Cascade Collegiate Conference win of the season, improving to 3-12 overall, going 1-10 in conference while the Wolves sit at 0-11, 0-11 CCC.

How it Happened: Freshman Noe Favila opening the scoring quickly for the Lions, dribbling past two defenders into the box before sliding the ball past the keep just under four minutes into the match. After that, it took Favila six minutes and 36 seconds to record Multnomah's first ever hat trick, scoring two more unassisted goals with 35 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Lions tallied 10 shots in the first half while the Wolves notched seven as the score remained 3-0 heading into the break.

During the second half, Favila continued to be a playmaker for MU, first assisting on a goal by Michael Kochis in the 54 minute, as Kochis handled a cross before dribbling through the Walla Walla defense.

Just a few minutes later, Favila crossed the ball to the top of the box, finding the foot of Edgar De Los Santos who sent the ball flying past the keeper.

By the Numbers: The Lions finished with 18 shots, including 11 on goal. Fischer Rogers finished with a team high four shots while De Los Santos, Favila and Austin McKee finished with three shots each. Goalie Manny Guillermo earned the shutout for MU, recording seven saves on the night.

Walla Walla tallied seven shots on goal, with 15 total shots, led by Aaron Martinez who finished with five shots. Josh Fry recorded six saves between the posts for the Wolves.

From the Coach: "Another big step in the growth of our guys and the program," said head coach Tom Stephens. "We came out really strong and put the pressure up top immediately. All the guys got in today and played really confidently and hopefully we can take that into next weekend as we play two really tough teams."

Coming Up Next: The Lions will make the long trip to Montana as they play Carroll College and Great Falls next weekend.
