PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University volleyball team struggled after a long trip south, falling to Oregon Tech in three sets, 19-25, 22-25, and 18-25, on the road Friday night.
The Lions (8-12, 3-10 CCC) were held to a hitting percentage of .085 while the Owls mustered up a .155 hitting percentage to defeat MU for the second time this season.
Neither team could really take control in the opening set as they battled to a 19-19 tie in set one. After that, the Owls found a way to close out, earning the last six points of the match to take the early lead.
Freshmen
Maile Kam and
Hannah Antal led the offense for MU with seven kills each while
Marissa Rhodes tallied 19 assists on the night as she approaches the 1,000 assist mark in her career.
The Lions made it close late in set two again, tying it 21-21 after a kill by sophomore
Patty Batoon. The Owls strung together three more points to pull away before an MU error sealed the second set for OIT.
Whitney Webster and Bailey Nelson each tied with nine kills while Waverly Green tallied a match high 26 assists.
Oregon Tech used a 10-1 run in the middle of set three to insure the victory at home and completing the season sweep of the Lions.
Sophomore
Miranda Halverson finished with a match high 20 digs to go along with five kills while senior
Kiana Miller ended the night with 15 digs.
The Lions return to action tomorrow afternoon as they head to Southern Oregon for a rematch after previously falling to Southern in a five set match.
