Quick Start Lifts Northwest Over the Lions 3-1

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Despite going down early in Saturday's game against Northwest University, the Multnomah University men's soccer team gave an extremely tough performance but couldn't overcome a slow start, losing 3-1 on the road.

Northwest, needed 10 minutes to take a big advantage in the game, scoring in the eighth minute as Luis Rangel crossed the ball to Branson Corwin, and again in the 10th minute, this time Corwin giving the ball to Alex Ballard as he lifted it over the keeper.

MU struggled to find offense in the first half, recording only three shots as they headed to halftime down 2-0.

The second half was much stronger for the Lions, who notched eight shots to finish the game with five shots on goal.

Freshman Noe Favila broke the scoring drought for Multnomah, beating the defense to find the back of the net from eight yards out in the 59th minute. Favila also registered MU's goal from a night ago, giving him three on the year.

It took the Eagles almost an hour to score again, as Kieren Raney found the ball on a free kick to give Northwest back their two goal lead.

Favila tallied a team high six shots while keeper Manny Guillermo totaled seven saves on the night.

The Lions stay on the road next week as they head to Warner Pacific and Eastern Oregon.
