Multnomah Struggles in the End, Lose to C of I 73-61

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's basketball team put together three solid quarters of play, but couldn't find a way to finish as College of Idaho slips by to win 73-61 on Jim Skagen Court on Friday night.

The loss drops the Lions to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play while the Yotes remain ahead of MU in the conference standings and improve to 4-9, 3-4 CCC.

After the end of the first quarter, the Yotes held a 27-24 lead after a late 3-pointer by Haylee Burnham.

The Lions kept things close but were unable to gain back the lead in the first half. It wasn't until the final quarter of play that C of I was able to break away from the Lions and start to take command. With a three point lead with just over eight minutes to go in the game, the Yotes just a 10-4 run to break away for good.

The Yotes took their largest lead of the night with the final bucket of the night, winning 73-61 after a free throw by Kellie Ross.

By the Numbers: The Lions held a better shooting percentage on the night, hitting 46 percent from the field compared to C of I's 40 percent, but the Yotes made up for it from behind the arc, totaling 37 percent while hitting 10 3-pointers.

For the Lions, junior guard Miranda Schmillen finished with a season high 20 points followed by Karissa Cox who also had a season high with 16 points off of 7-of-12 shooting. From the Coach: "The ladies played a GREAT three quarters. Unfortunately we had a difficult time scoring in the fourth quarter," said head coach Tim Bieri. "As always, our effort was there – but C of I finished well, so hats off to them for that. Miranda and Karissa were fantastic on the offensive end, and our whole team played very solid defense tonight – so we'll continue to build on that."

Coming up Next: The Lions will remain at home as they welcome in Eastern Oregon while C of I will stay in the area as they take on Warner Pacific tomorrow night.
