PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's basketball team played one of their closest games of the season on the road at Corban tonight, falling to the Warriors 41-38 after holding a one point lead with just over two minutes to play.
The Lions (3-14, 1-8 CCC) struggled in the second quarter of play, only scoring four points compared to Corban's 10 points. MU outscored the Warriors in the first and third quarters but fell just short after a late foul sent Corban's Julia Young to the free throw line.
With the win, Corban improves their record to 9-9 overall and 4-5 in the Cascade Conference.
Junior forward
Lacie Kamper led the way for the Lions, recording eight points on the night to go along with eight rebounds. Junior
Miranda Schmillen finished with six points and five rebounds while senior
Lexie Govert tallied six points and six rebounds.
For the Warriors, Jade Lowery finished with a game high 14 points while Sadie Pilgeram totaled 20 rebounds along with 10 points to complete the double-double.
With 2:26 left of the clock, MU's
Valerie Wakefield hit a go ahead three before a layup by Lowery and the two late free throws by Young kept the Warriors ahead for good.
The Lions return to action tomorrow night as they head to Eugene, Ore., to face Northwest Christian tomorrow night.
