MU Plays Man Down in Loss to Trinity Lutheran

PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing with less than a full squad for the majority of the second half, the Multnomah University men's soccer team concluded their final game before conference play with an 8-1 loss to Trinity Lutheran College in a neutral site game in Klamath Falls, Ore., on Sunday.

Ten minutes into the second half, freshman forward Milan Mena went down with an injury, forcing the Lions to play with only ten players for the remainder of the match.

Trinity Lutheran opened the scoring in the early minutes of the first half after a 30-yard shot by forward Ifi Ekpo fell just out of reach of MU keeper Danny Mangione.

MU quickly answered with an attempted by junior defender Juan Candido that found the back of the net for his first career goal with the Lions and Multnomah's first of the season.

Five different Lions attempted a shot against Trinity Lutheran with senior forward Micah Sugiura recording two of the six total shots taken.

In the 34th minute, Mangione kept the score tied coming up with a big save off a penalty kick after an MU foul in the box. Mangione tallied nine saves overall on the day.

As the end of the first half approached, Ekpo notched his second goal for Trinity off a rebound from 10-yards out.

Leading the attack for Trinity Lutheran was Bryant Maxey who recorded 10 shots, with seven on goal and two goals, both coming within five minutes of each other in the second half.

After the injury, Trinity took over the match scoring six goals in the second half to earn their first win of the season.

Ekpo completed his hat trick in the final minutes of the match for Trinity after a long pass ended with a header.

The Lions fall to 0-3 on the season and will travel back to Klamath Falls on Friday, Sept. 18 for their first ever Cascade Conference game against Oregon Tech
