COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The Multnomah University volleyball team came up short on their first Cascade Collegiate Conference road match, falling to Walla Walla in three straight sets (23-25, 17-25, 16-25) on Friday night.
The Lions (1-4, 0-4 CCC) are still searching for that first CCC win as they will have a week break before heading south to face No. 9 Southern Oregon on Friday, Sep. 18, and Oregon Tech on Saturday Sep. 19.
MU kept it close in the first set, scoring their most points of the match before the Wolves took the first of three sets.
Freshman setter
Marissa Rhodes totaled a match high of 18 assists while freshman outsider
Miranda Halverson also tallied a match high with 10 kills.
Leading the back row for the Lions was sophomore libero
Kiana Miller, playing her first game of the season, and freshman defensive specialist
Devyn Sigurdson who each had 12 digs against Walla Walla.
For the Wolves, Alissa Casey and Lauren Bosler each had 13 and 10 assists respectively, while Lexi Shanko led the attack with eight kills.
With the win, Walla Walla improves to 4-4 overall on the season and 1-2 in the CCC.
Sophomore outside hitter Patty Batoon added six kills for the Lions along with junior middle
Kathrynn Gerard with five kills.
MU fell behind the Wolves in attack errors, ultimately making it too difficult to bounce back from the early loss. The Lions will prepare for two tough competitions down south starting next Friday.
