MU Defeats Walla Walla 82-77 for First Ever CCC Win

COLLEGE POINT, Wash. – The Multnomah University men's basketball team used 15 three-points to defeat Walla Walla University 82-77, earning the team's first ever Cascade Collegiate Conference win in history, on the road Thursday night.
 
The Lions (4-7, 1-3 CCC), shot 46 percent from the field and 44 percent from the 3-point line to win over the Wovles (2-9, 0-3 CCC) for the first time in four attempts.
 
Ben Grandle and Thomas Simien both finished with team highs in points with 16 with Grandle hitting four from deep and Simien adding eight rebounds.
 
Both teams came out hitting threes to start the game before the Wolves jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first half. The Lions turned it around to earn their first lead of the game with 10:56 on the clock, using a 18-7 run, to take a 23-22 advantage.
 
Ethan Osias led the way for the Wolves with 23 points while Chad Torkelsen and Michael Isotalo had 19 and 17 points respectively.
 
Walla Walla held of the Lions late in the first half to take a 41-39 lead heading into the locker rooms.

"Clutch shooting by Jason Wyncoop and great post presence by Ezekiel Martin and Simien were the differences," said head coach Curt Bickley. "Great Win for our program." 
 
With the game tied 51-51 with just over 13 minutes left in the game the Lions hit three consecutive shots from behind the arc to go up by nine, before earning the largest lead of the night, 74-64 a few minutes later.
 
Blake Updike was another top performer for MU with 15 points while Wyncoop hit five three-pointers to also end the night with 15 points.
 
Walla Walla brought the game to only a three point lead for the Lions before two late free throws by Jordan Paris sealed the victory.
 
Multnomah will have a small break before heading south to take on CCC opponent Southern Oregon on Wednesday, Dec., 30.
