Lions Earn Big Victory of NAIA Opponent La Sierra

LANCASTER, Calif. – The Multnomah University men's basketball team earned their first ever win over a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics opponent while being a part of the NAIA, defeating La Sierra 93-82 at a neutral site on Saturday evening.
 
As a team, the Lions combined for a total 19 three-pointers to improve to 2-4 overall on the year.
 
Senior guard Blake Updike led the offense for the Lions, recording 21 points followed closely behind be fellow senior Jordan Paris who finished the night with 20 points. Both players hit five three-pointers in the win.
 
Paris also proved why he was one of the top rebounders in the NAIA, adding a game high 15 rebounds on the night.
 
A total of five players ended in double figures for the Lions with freshman Ben Grandle hitting four threes for 12 points and Thomas Simien and Jason Wyncoop both tallying 10 points in the game. Simien continued his presence in the post adding 11 rebounds.
 
"Tremendous win over a quality NAIA opponent.  Blake Updike and Jordan Paris combined to go 10-14 from behind the arc as part of our 19 three's made for the night," said head coach Curt Bickley. "We outrebounded LSU by 3 which was a goal going in. Great team effort."
 
The final rebounding total was 44-41 as the Lions grabbed 15 offensive boards.
 
Leading the way for La Sierra was Gerald Williams with 24 points followed by Nicholas Culver with 16 points. Keenan Braden ended the contest with 10 rebounds while adding four points.
 
With just under a minute to go, guard Preston Brooks hit a big three, securing the win and putting his team up by nine points.
 
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 24, as they travel for a non-conference game against New Hope Christian College.
