COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – In a history making night, the Multnomah University men's soccer team became the first sport to earn a Cascade Collegiate Conference victory, defeating Walla Walla University 1-0 on the road on Friday night.
The victory is not only the first win as members of the CCC, but it also marks the first win in the program's two year existence.
MU's only senior and current leader in career goals,
Micah Sugiura, took the ball at midfield before sneaking past two defenders and finding the back of the net for the game winner.
Lion's keeper
Manny Guillermo recorded another moment of MU history, becoming the first goalie to earn a shutout in program history, tallying five saves.
The loss moves Walla Walla to 0-11 on the season while the Lion's jump up to 1-10 in the Cascade Conference.
How it Happened: The Lions played one of the most explosive games offensively, recording eight shots in the first half alone. Despite both teams recording a significant number of shots, the first half ended in a scoreless tie.
Sixty-six minutes into the match, the Lions broke through onto the scoreboard earning their first ever game winning goal.
Guillermo kept the score in favor of MU, not allowing any of Walla Walla's 22 shots to get past him.
By the Numbers: Juan Candido finished the night with a team high in shots for the Lions with four with
Michael Kochis adding three and Sugiura with two.
For the Wolves, Brook Fesler totaled a match high seven shots followed by Gregory Sheuermann with three. Josh Fry finished with four saves in goal.

"Our defense played fantastic and created many good scoring opportunities for our offense. I could not be more proud of the guys and it was awesome to stand back and watch them enjoy this huge step in our program. All the little victories have finally equaled this big one."
