Chris Hynes

Multnomah Vice President of Enrollment and Athletics Mike Anderson announced staff updates for the volleyball program, highlighted by the hiring of Chris Hynes as Head Coach of Volleyball. Hynes joins the Lions after spending the last 8 seasons with the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.

"I am thrilled to welcome Coach Hynes to the Multnomah Family!  During the search process, Coach Hynes impressed us with his plan, passion, and energy." Mike Anderson said.  "He came highly recommended to us and brings a resume of mentoring and leading young women at the club and collegiate levels.  I look forward to him taking our program to the next level!"

During his eight season at Pomona-Pitzer, Hynes helped guide the Sagehens to three postseason appearances and final conference rankings of No. 6 in 2019-20 and No. 2 in 2021-22, which is the highest finish for the Sagehens in the Townsend and Hynes era. Hynes was responsible for on-court coaching, recruiting, opponent scouting, and game preparation. Hynes and the Sagehens ranked as 5th in the SCIAC preseason poll. In the postseason, Pomona-Pitzer advanced to the SCIAC Semifinals despite taking the previous 2020-21 season off due to COVID. The Sagehens finished at 17-10 overall and 13-3 in conference play in their latest 2021-22 season, the third time Pomona-Pitzer has posted a record of .500 or better in the eight seasons. The Sagehens swept the SCIAC awards in the 2021-22 season. The Sagehens earned two of the five major awards with Coaching Staff of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, had two First Team All-SCIAC selections and had one Second Team All-SCIAC selection.

"It is a privilege to join the Multnomah community" Hynes said. "I look forward to helping the student-athletes of the women's volleyball program continue their ascent towards further competitive success."
