Corey Mehl is the third athletic director since the Lions made the move to the NAIA in 2015 succeeding Lois Vos (retired 2020) and Mike Anderson. Previously, he was the head coach of the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs from 2017 until 2022. Prior to becoming Head Coach, Corey was a volunteer assistant coach under program founder Dave Lee from 2015 to 2017 for the cross country/track teams.
Multnomah has many notable accomplishments during his tenure including:
- Achieved CCC Presidents' Cup Status for academic excellence in 2023-24 for the first time in school history which featured a department wide GPA of 3.15 and a record 52 academic all-conference student-athletes.
- Awarded NAIA Champions of Character Five Star Institution, Silver Level status for on campus promotion, coaches training, team service projects, and teachable moments.
- Improved overall scoring in the CCC All-Sports standings by over 40 points.
- Improved Learfield Directors' Cup finish by over 60 places into top half of NAIA.
- 58% increase in average fall semester student-athlete enrollment.
- Fundraised $150,000 into renovated weight, locker, and golf simulator rooms.
- New apparel partnership with BSN/Nike worth $50,000 over 5 years.
- Host institution and primary course developer for the 2021 and 2023 NAIA National Cross Country Championships.

- Promoted Assistant Coach Tayo Gem to Head Coach in 2023.
- Doubled CCC wins within two years with 2024 being the winningest year in program history.

- Promoted Assistant Coach Ben Barber to Head Coach of Cross Country/Track & Field in 2022.
- Between 2023 and 2024, he produced 15 All-Americans.
- Men's Outdoor Track & Field team finished ranked 15th in the NAIA in 2024.
As Head Coach of the Cross Country/Track & Field programs, Coach Corey helped lead the programs to new heights. He recruited and coached over 100 student-athletes and was able to start the indoor track & field program. His notable accomplishments include:
- First NAIA Women's All-American in any sport for women's cross country in 2021.
- Shiloh Najjar - 4x National Qualifier in XC and 2x National Qualifier in Track & Field.
- First NAIA National Qualifier in any sport in the Men's Marathon in 2018.
- First spring sport All-CCC athlete in Men's High Jump in 2019.
- First Field Athlete National Qualifier in the Men's Hammer Throw in 2021.
- First program CCC Champion in Men's 200m and 400m in 2022.
- 50 Academic All-CCC Performers.
- 2021 and 2022 USTFCCCA NAIA Men's and Women's All-Academic Teams.
Mehl competed collegiately at the University of Charleston in WV (NCAA DII) from 2005 to 2009 and graduated with a Bachelors in Business/Athletic Administration. He was a four year member of the cross country and track & field teams. There, he was the 2007-2008 Outstanding Male Sportsperson of the Year, three year captain and four year varsity letter winner. He was an All-Conference distance runner in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (UC is now part of the Mountain East Conference) in 2006 and 2008. In 2011, he earned his Masters in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has awarded him certification in Technical Track & Field Coaching in 2015, Endurance Specialist in 2016 and Sprint, Hurdle, Relay Specialist in 2021.
He and his wife, Brittany, live in Portland with their daughter Lucy.
