PORTLAND, Ore. - In a back and forth contest, Multnomah came out on top against the visiting Northwest University Eagles, snapping a four-game losing streak with a 74-65 victory. With the win, the Lions improved to 7-17 on the year and 5-13 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Multnomah opened up the game with an 8-0 scoring run, jumping out to a six-point lead early in the first quarter. Both teams continued to chip away at each other as the period went on, with a three-pointer from Northwest's Jersey McGehee giving the visitors a one-point advantage heading into the second quarter.
The matchup remained tightly contested as the first half wore on, with the Lions only leading by as much as five during the period. The Eagles managed to regain the lead in the final three minutes of the half, before a 4-0 run from Multnomah, anchored by guards
Ellie Robertson and
Makayla Torkornoo, helped to give the hosts a one-point lead heading into the halftime break.
The Lions continued their sharp shooting in the early stages of the second half with a 6-0 run to begin the third quarter. However, it was Northwest this time who closed out the period with the advantage, holding just a one-point lead over the Lions thanks to a free throw from Kimberly Carrada Sanchez.Â
The Eagles maintained control of the contest throughout the majority of the fourth quarter, until a layup from Multnomah's
Jersey Huerta began a 9-0 run to close out the game, securing the 74-65 victory and season sweep over Northwest.
Robertson had her best performance in a Lions' jersey tonight with a career-high 21 points. Torkornoo ended the night with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Huerta added 16 points, six assists and a pair of steals.

Leiah Naeata did well to control the paint, with the pair of forwards each recording a game-high nine rebounds on the night.
The Lions will be back on Jim Skagen Court next weekend for their final home games of the season and in program history as they host Eastern Oregon University and College of Idaho.
