PORTLAND, Ore. - Forwards
Keilan Torkornoo and
Noah McCord each secured a double-double in tonight's conference win, leading Multnomah to a 83-78 victory against the visiting Southern Oregon University Raiders. With the win, the Lions improve to 11-3 on the year and 7-2 in conference play, improving on their conference record from the 2023-24 season with 13 games still yet to play.
"We still have some things we need to clean up for the game against OIT tomorrow, but I'm proud of this group for securing a conference win," shared head coach Tayo Gem.
The Raiders jumped out to a six-point lead to start the game, before the Lions went on a 10-point scoring run about halfway through the period to establish a nine-point lead over the visitors. Both teams continued to exchange blows as the half wore on, with SOU cutting Multnomah's lead to just five heading into the halftime break on the back of a free throw from Joe Juhala.
The second half saw more of the same from both sides, with Multnomah eventually asserting their dominance on the game, increasing their lead to 11 thanks to a jumper from junior guard
Braedon Edison with just under 15 minutes left to play in the half. The visitors cut Multnomah's lead to just one thanks to a three-pointer from Jacob Axmaker with just under 10 minutes still to play. Despite their best efforts, this was the closest that SOU would get to controlling the contest, as the Lions rallied their way back into the lead, holding a 12-point advantage over the Raiders after junior guard
Alileyon Ford converted a three-pointer with just over six minutes left in the half.
In spite of SOU's best efforts late in the game, Multnomah was able to come on top, securing a five-point win against the visitors. Torkornoo and McCord each ended the night with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Marje Windfield rounded out the scoring with 12 points. Fellow sophomore guard
Noah Madsen tallied a game-high seven assists, while Ford and
Darius Mason-Robertson each recorded seven points.
Multnomah will close out the weekend against the Oregon Tech Owls at home tomorrow at 5:00 pm.
