PORTLAND, Ore. - After eight years of having never lost to Walla Walla, that unbeaten run came to an end today as Multnomah fell to the Wolves in their fourth conference game of the season, losing 3-1.
Walla Walla (5-2, 4-1) dominated the first two sets, winning 25-17 and 25-18 while holding a 24-12 edge in terms of kills after Sets 1 & 2. Multnomah (1-7, 1-3 CCC) did all they could to find a foothold in the game, but they didn't look their strongest until Set 3. Freshmen
Sydney Priebe and
Alivia Vasquez had impressive afternoons, while logging some significant minutes early in their collegiate careers. Multnomah was able to fight back and win the third set 28-26, thanks to
Lauren Porter and
Myckayla Shaver, who came up big defensively for the Lions and kept them in the set.
Set 4, however, was all about Walla Walla, who came out and dominantly won the set 25-15. The Wolves secured the win today on the back of another impressive performance by Sahara Browning, who secured a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.
"I expected more from us today," shared Head Coach Nerisa Laban. "We made a lot of mistakes that inevitably helped Walla Walla earn their win, but we're still growing as a group and learning how to play with each other. We made more changes to the lineup than we have in our past three games, and we have to remember that there is still a long season ahead of us."
The Lions host Lewis-Clark State College tomorrow at 2:00 pm before they prepare for their first away trip of the conference season.
