SALEM, Ore. - Despite looking sharp in the early stages of Saturday's conference matchup against Corban University (4-4, 2-0 CCC), Multnomah (3-6, 1-2 CCC) was unable to fight their way back into contention as the game wore on, falling 71-92 in their third conference game of the season.
The Lions came out hot in the first quarter, jumping out to a 21-15 lead on the back of two good three-point attempts from
Reya Lee and
Gracie Browning to close out the period. Multnomah continued their sharp shooting throughout the second quarter, maintaining their lead throughout all but two possessions throughout the period.
Jersey Huerta converted a two-pointer in the dying seconds of the quarter to give the Lions a narrow 38-37 lead heading into the break.
The Warriors changed the tide of the game out of the halftime break, scoring the first 10 points of the third quarter, which was enough momentum to propel them to their double-digit victory over Multnomah. Corban outscored the Lions 55-33 throughout the final 20 minutes of play, despite Multnomah's best efforts to regain their hold on the game.
Freshman guard Huerta was the focal point of Multnomah's offense after converting on nine of her 21 field goal attempts and a free throw for a game-high 23 points, as well as a team-high six assists. Senior forward Browning secured a double-double on the night thanks to 11 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman guard
Teyah Clark ended the night with 15 points, three steals and three rebounds.
Up next for Multnomah is a midweek non-conference matchup on the road against Saint Martin's University before heading up to Washington to take on Northwest University and The Evergreen State College next Friday and Saturday.
