Huerta Leads Lions To Victory Over Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Jersey Huerta's 33-point performance was more than enough to propel Multnomah (5-6, 3-2 CCC) to a 79-71 road victory against The Evergreen State College (1-6, 1-4 CCC), as the Lions ended the weekend 2-0 against their Washington-based opponents. With tonight's victory, Multnomah matched their total conference win record from the 2023-24 season without any signs of slowing down anytime soon.

"This was another huge performance from the girls tonight," said head coach Reid Takatsuka following the victory. "It's anytime we can get a conference win on the road, and to be performing like this at this point in the season will hopefully be the momentum we need to take us to the conference tournament."

Multnomah started tonight's contest just as they did last night against Northwest University, jumping out to as much as a 14-point lead in the first quarter.

It was more of the same from the Lions as the half wore on, with a three-pointer from freshman guard Teyah Clark in the final 30 seconds of the period sealing a 19-point advantage over the hosts heading into the halftime interval.

Multnomah continued their fine form throughout the early stages of the third quarter, extending their lead to 26 points thanks to a three-pointer from senior guard Reya Lee with just under six minutes left to play in the period. Miss opportunities and lapses in judgment by the Lions opened the door for the Geoducks to chip away at Multnomah's lead throughout the quarter, with the Lions holding just a seven-point advantage heading into the final period of the game.

The fourth quarter was tightly contested until the very end, with a pair of good free throws from Huerta in the final eight seconds of the game being the deciding factor in Multnomah's 79-71 win over The Evergreen State College.

Along with her 33 points, Huerta recorded a game-high five assists and a game-high three steals after going 10-of-15 from the field, 2-of-3 from behind the arc, and 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Senior forward Gracie Browning tallied 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Lee chipped in with 14 points and two rebounds off the bench for Multnomah.

The Lions will have this next week off before returning home on December 30th where they will look to complete the season sweep over cross-town rivals Warner Pacific University.
