Coming off of a great win over The Evergreen State Geoducks, the Lions struggled to make it happen again while competing against the Eagles of Northwest University.
The Lions lost in three sets to the Eagles of Northwest University by final scores of 23-25, 19-25, and 17-25. The Lions were able to stay in the game during the first set. Both the Eagles and the Lions went back and forth during the whole set. Keeping the score very close the whole time. During the rest of the sets, the Lions struggled to keep the Eagles from being able to take the score away, especially the final set. The Northwest University Eagles were able to capitalize on the Lions mistakes.
Maya Blake (10 kills) and Kaitlyn Mickle (11 kills) competed against each other at the net and made it very difficult on the defensive side with their double-digit kills. On the defensive side, Ellie Van Berkum, held the back line strong with her 21 digs. The Lions had both
Lauren Porter and
Maya Blake helping the defense with both having 10+ digs each.
The Lions will keep working hard this week in practice as they are hoping to turn this loss into a win next week on the road. The Lions will play against Walla Walla University on Friday, September 29
th.
