The Multnomah Lions traveled on their first road trip of the new year. During this trip up north, the Lions matched up against Evergreen State College on January 13
th and then came back the next day on the 14
th to face Northwest University. Multnomah continued their winning ways as they took down the Geoducks of Evergreen and the Eagles of Northwest. The Lions have now won four games in a row and five of their last six.
In the first game of the road trip, it was the duo of
Neyland Block and
Tyrese Taylor that led the way for the Lions. Neyland accounted for a team-leading 22 points and 9 rebounds to go along with it. Tyrese led the team in rebounds, pulling in 13 total and 15 points as well. The Lions had key bench performances from the likes of
Wallace Ungwiluk,
Taylor Peppinger, and
Brady Grier who combined for 41 points and led the way for Multnomah to take a commanding lead in the second half after Evergreen kept it close in the first. Multnomah dominated the boards, hauling in 61 total rebounds compared to Evergreen's 36. All of this led to an impressive win by the Lions as they started off the weekend strong.
The following day, the Lions traveled over to Kristi Brodin Pavilion to take on the Eagles of Northwest University. Northwest was coming off a dramatic loss to Warner Pacific and was looking to bounce back against the Lions. The anticipated drama of this game did not disappoint. After Multnomah built a 22-point lead in the first half, the Eagles slowly clawed their way back into the game. This included, after being down by 13, Northwest put up the first 14 points of the second half to take the lead. Following this point, it was a back-and-forth battle that led to
Neyland Block's all-important free throws with 6 seconds to go. This gave the Lions the lead and ultimately the win in this contest. In a thrilling back-and-forth battle, Multnomah came out on top 78-76.
Tyrese Taylor led the game with 23 points and had 13 rebounds to go along with it. On the other side, both Coa Chatman and Barquet O'Shae put up 22 points in an impressive shooting night.
Neyland Block added to the Lions total with 16 points 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Both
Zach Richardson and
Quentin Jones contributed with 12 points respectively.
The Lions return home to play Warner Pacific in a highly anticipated rivalry game as both teams continue to battle for their place among the conference's best teams. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm at Multnomah University.
