KIRKLAND, Wash. – After yet another four-set match, the Lions were overcome by the Eagles of Northwest University.
Coming into the match with aggressive plays at the net and strong serving, the Eagles held the Lions offense and kept them out of system. Unable to find their rhythm, Multnomah lost set one 25-11. The Lions were able to bounce back and get their offense going in the second set, but the Eagles block kept sending the ball back over to win them the set 25-20.
The third set was in the Lions favor after they dug deep and kept the ball alive during rallies that seemed impossible. Northwest had the lead at 17-13, but the Lions weren't giving up and had the set tied up at 22's. The Porter sisters finished out the last two points of the set, with a kill from
Jocelynn Porter followed by an ace from
Lauren Porter to make the score 25-23.
Not taking the loss lightly, the Eagles came out into the fourth set with 6 straight points. From there their offense and strong serving took over, winning with a final score of 25-9. Northwest finished with a total of 10 blocks on the match.
Leading Multnomah offensively was
Jocelynn Porter, who finished with 12 kills. Three Lions found themselves in the double digits for digs in the match –
Alyssa Mehalovich led with 15, followed by
Kamaile Labanon and
JahNay Jardine with 11 each.
Not letting two losses and being short staffed get them down, the Lions are looking forward at what is to come after a solid week of practice and a couple home games to get them back in system.
