Lions Fight but Fall to LCSC

LEWISTON, Ida. – After traveling to Idaho for their second game of the weekend, the Lions fell to the Warriors of Lewis-Clark State College in three straight sets.

The Warriors came into the match ready to roll – scoring 5 straight points to start the first set. The biggest difference the teams had in set one was 7 points, when LC State was up 17-10. Although it looked like it would be an easy win for the Warriors, Multnomah worked their way back in. The Warriors thought they were safe when they were up 24-19, but the Lions turned it on and went on a 4-0 run to shorten their deficit to just one point. Coming up just short, LC State closed it out with one last point to win by 2.

Multnomah kept their momentum going into the second set, and had a 2 point lead for the first part of the set. However a couple quick runs in the middle put the Warriors up by 6. Jocelynn Porter earned the last point of the set for the Lions with a solo block on the right side, but the team could not get as close as last time and lost by 5, 25-20.

The first part of set three saw the teams battling point for point, and keeping a steady pace. After a couple of aces and big kills, the Lions went on a 5 point run to lead 16-12. The Warriors retaliated and stayed consistent, ultimately tying it up at 21's. With three aces in a row, LC State sealed the sweep with a 25-21 final set score.

Despite the 3-set sweep, the Lions overall showed a lot of improvement on their game – overcoming tough rallies, hitting a better average, and decreasing their errors.

The LC State serving game was a vital role in the loss, after 11 points alone were scored on their aces.

Leading offensively for the second night in a row was outside hitter Danae Stokes, who had the match high of 14 kills. Jocelynn Porter was also in the double digits with 10 kills and tacked on 2 solo blocks plus an assisted block. Jennifer Crago was on her A-game in the match, landing a .455 average after 5 kills and 0 errors on 11 attempts.

Kamaile Labanon played tough and scored all 3 aces for the Lions. Leading defensively was Alyssa Mehalovich, who tallied 12 digs on the night.
