2021 Volleyball Season Complete

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University Lions have officially played their last games of the 2021 season, after hosting an exciting senior weekend then hitting the road for the final two games.

Senior weekend began on Friday, October 29th, with a three-set loss to LC State. Despite the score not being in the Lions favor, it was an exciting game with long rallies and thrilling plays from both sides of the net.

Three Lions notched 9 kills in the match – Kamaile Labanon, Danae Stokes, and Jocelynn Porter. Porter finished with the highest percentage with a .333. Stokes also had an impressive percentage with a .321 with 0 errors. Rachel Bailey had a double-double, with 29 assists and 10 digs. Alyssa Mehalovich was the next leader in digs with 9.

Senior night was held on Saturday, October 30th and was complete with a sweep of the Wolves of Walla Walla University. The four seniors celebrated were Kamaile Labanon, Rayesa Efimov, Jasmine Santos, and Alyssa Mehalovich.

The numbers across the board the Lions were outstanding, leaving their mark on the last home game of the season. Danae Stokes led in kills with 10. Hannah McPhetridge and Jocelynn Porter were tied with best percentage, each hitting a .357. Alyssa Mehalovich led in digs after tallying 13.

Head Coach Colton Naill said, "Senior weekend was a huge success!  I want to thank each and every family in our program for their support and a big thank you to the 4 seniors and their families. I am proud that we we're able to celebrate the accomplishments of Jasmine, Rayesa, Kamaile and Alyssa while earning a 3-0 win on Senior Night. As fired up as I was on the win I am sad that we won't have these 4 players in the program next season. They've each made a lasting impact on the program and I hope to see each one back in the gym sometime soon!"

After their exciting weekend, the team made one last roadtrip together to Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech the next weekend.

At Southern Oregon, the team had an impressive showing at the night and tallied 5 blocks. The hitting percentages were also high, with Hannah McPhetridge leading with a .400. Jocelynn Porter and Ashley Allred were right behind her with .385 and .375, respectively. In the double digits for kills was Jocelynn Porter (13) and Danae Stokes (10).

Oregon Tech brought the heat on Saturday, and shut down the Lions system. Danae Stokes finished the match with a .333 on 9 kills.

Overall the season might not have been as successful as the team hoped from a record standpoint, but it had many moments of glory and saw lots of growth for the program. As the season progressed, the chemistry and overall level of play was stronger. The Lions will miss the four seniors that will not be on the court next year, but they know their impact will continue to push the program forward to more wins.
