Lions Win a Set, but Fall to Warner Pacific in Four

Portland, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's volleyball team faced-off against cross town rivals Warner Pacific University on Saturday night, but it was the Knights who walked away victorious in four sets (15-25), (22-25), (25-12), (15-25).
 
THE BASICS:

GAME SUMMARY:
In the first set the Lions got out to an early 4-1 lead over the Knights, including an impressive block by Junior Kamaile Labanon, but WPU quickly turned things around by scoring 10 of the next 12 points giving the Knights a comfortable lead to finish the first set on top.
 
In the second set the Lions and Knights played back-and-forth until Senior Taylor Howie had back-to-back aces in the middle of an 8-2 run for the Lions. The Lions bounced back and won the second set with the final score coming form a powerful kill from Kamaile Labanon.
 
Warner Pacific started the beginnings of both the third and fourth sets strong, gaining separation early and ending the Lions night.
 
The Lions finished the night with 34 total kills. Senior outside hitter Taryn Frey lead MU with 11 kills and was followed by senior Maile Kam who tallied 9 kills. Junior Kamaile Labanon added in 7 kills of her own. Freshman setter Amanda Holm played well and dished out 21 assists on the night.
 
Warner Pacific tallied a total of 51 kills lead by senior Gennah Schoen who finished with 10, while both Haley Yoder and Grace Buchanan added 9 kills of their own as well. Gennah Schoen also lead the Knights with 7 blocks.

"We're definitely improving as a team and as individuals. It was great to take a set tonight and I think that's a confidence boost that we've really needed. All of the pieces are here, so now it is about sustaining a high level of play for an entire match."

COMING UP NEXT:
The Lions are home next weekend as they face Corban University Friday night at 7:00 PM, and then Northwest Christian University on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
