Portland, Ore. – The Multnomah University Lions opened their 2019-20 campaign with a 102-92 win over Yellowstone Christian College on Saturday afternoon at the Lytle Gymnasium.

The first points of the day for Lions came from a high arching Zach Richardson three, as the sophomore guard looked to pick up right where he left off from his all-conference 2018-2019 season.

MU led at halftime 51-44 behind some hot shooting from junior Grant Balvanz off the bench and great passing from senior Trey Fountain.  Sophomore Zach Richardson led the way at the half with 15 points.

In the second half, the Lions came out hot behind Junior Forrest Smith's outside shooting and a big dunk by Senior Stepan Zavydovskyy to put their lead to 17 points.  With 8:00 minutes to go, Yellowstone knocked down three 3's to get right back in the game.  After a scoring drought by MU, the Lions had a two-point lead with 4:00 minutes to go.  Justin Martin took care of things from there and scored 8 straight points to help the Lions finish the 10-point win.

Richardson led the Lions with 24 points, Fountain had 20, and Martin 18.  Martin and Fountain combined for 17 assists as well.

For Yellowstone, Darian Reed had 31 points and Christ Pendley finished with 19 points and 18 rebounds.

"Tremendous effort by our seniors, especially Trey as that was his first game in a year and a half. We shared the ball really well as a team which resulted in some great looks. Great start."   -Head Coach Curt Bickley
