PORTLAND, Oregon - A strong third quarter from the Corban Warriors proved to be too much for the Multnomah Lions, as they dropped their first home game of the new year, 70-44.
Â
Multnomah kept things active throughout the first half against the Warriors, limiting the visitors to 26 points on 24% shooting. Intense defensive pressure from both sides resulted in a slow start offensively, but things picked up in the second half.
Â
Corban jumped out early after the half, shooting a red hot 12-21 from the court. Multnomah kept things close through most of the quarter, but a quick run in the closing minutes pushed the Warriors lead to 20. The Lions showed glimpses of highly-effective basketball and continued playing hard until the final horn sounded.
Â
Standout performances came from Faith Kraatz and Lacie Kamper, along with a team high of 12 points from Miranda Schmillen. Kraatz collected 8 rebounds with 8 points of her own, followed closely by Kamper who had 6 points, 8 rebounds, as well as 4 steals and 3 blocks.
Â
Additional performances from Kayla Hyppolite (9 points, 3 boards) and Ana Wakefield (7 points, 6 boards) helped the Lions stay competitive for a majority of the game.
Â
Multnomah returns to the court against conference opponent Northwest Christian University tomorrow, Jan. 14th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Jim Skagen Court on the campus of Multnomah University.
