24th-Ranked Corban Downs Lions in Three Sets

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University volleyball team didn't back down from No. 24 Corban, who used a .340 attacking  percentage to defeat the Lions in three sets, 21-25, 13-25 and 21-25 on Friday night on Jim Skagen Court.

Madison McLain tallied a match high 39 assists for the Warriors (11-4, 7-2 CCC) while Amber Parker finished with 18 kills.

Set one opened up with neither team able to take an advantage early. With the score tied 19-19, Corban closed out the set with a 6-2 run.

"First, I want to say that Corban played great. They have an awesome setter and an efficient attack," said head coach Jenna Bouey. "We just weren't able to convert enough balls on our own side.

For the Lions, Miranda Halverson finished with team highs in kills with 12 and digs with 16 while Marissa Rhodes notched 30 assists.

After giving up the first point in set two, Corban tallied seven in a row to take a quick lead 7-1. The Warriors kept the lead intact through the remainder of the set, heading into the break with a 2-0 lead.

"I thought Halverson and Patty Batoon had a good match at the net and we are looking forward to NCU tomorrow night," continued Boeuy.

Alaina Gentili added 15 kills for the Warriors on 31 swings, earning the highest attacking percentage in the match at .452.

Teams continued to battle back and forth in the final set of the night before Corban broke out to an 18-12 lead. MU brought the set to within three points before a Gentili kill gave the match to the visitors.

Batoon added 11 kills on 27 swings for the Lions while Kiana Miller totaled 13 digs.

The Lions stay at home tomorrow night as they host Northwest Christian while the Warriors head to Warner Pacific.
