OLYMPIA, Wash. – Attacking woes continued for the Multnomah University volleyball team as they fell to Evergreen State in three sets, 25-18, 25-20, and 25-16, on Friday night at the Costantino Rec Center.
The Geoducks (2-5, 1-0 CCC) held the Lions (3-4, 0-2 CCC) to an attack percentage of .101, recording 39 digs and seven blocks on the night.
The first set opened up with both teams trading points to the score of 18-16 in favor of Evergreen. The Geoducks took the early advantage on the night, using a 7-2 run to close out set number one.
Marissa Rhodes and
Kayla Keane orchestrated the Lions offense, recording 16 and nine assists respectively.
Miranda Halverson ended with a team high nine kills followed by
Patty Batoon with seven and
Maile Kam with six kills.
Trailing 18-12 in the second set, Multnomah rallied to stay alive in the match, using an 8-3 run to come within a point of the home team. Two errors by the Lions and two kills by Evergreen ended the rally as the Geoducks took a 2-0 lead on the night.
Kam was also a major contributor defensively, recording 13 digs to lead the team while
Kiana Miller tallied seven digs.
Evergreen looked to end the night early in the third set, jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead. The Lions wouldn't be able to close the gap as they lost the final set of the night 25-16.
Multnomah continues conference play tomorrow night as they travel to Kirkland, Wash., for a match with Northwest University.
