PORTLAND, Ore. – The opening match of Cascade Collegiate Conference play didn't go as planned for the Multnomah University volleyball team as they fell to cross-town rival Warner Pacific in three sets on Tuesday night.
Multnomah (3-2, 0-1 CCC) saw their winning streak come to an end, losing 24-26, 22-25 and 17-25.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, building a 24-22 advantage. Warner Pacific fought back with two straight kills to tie the set 24-24 before winning 26-24 on a couple MU errors.
Freshman
Maile Kam continued to have a great start to her career, recording a team high nine kills on 25 swings followed by
Patty Batoon with seven kills and
Hannah Antal with six. Kam also tallied a team high seven digs.
Trailing 21-13 in the second set, the Lions worked to close the gap, executing a 9-3 run to bring the score to 24-22 before a final kill by the Knight gave them the 2-0 advantage in the match.
Sophomore
Marissa Rhodes finished with a team high 16 assists while freshman setter
Kayla Keane tallied 11 assists in the match.
The Knights opened up the final set of play on a 13-4 run to seal the victory for the home team.
Multnomah will take a break from Cascade Conference action on Thursday as they travel to Linfield College before facing CCC opponents Evergreen State and Northwest over the weekend.
