Lions Close Out First Season in the CCC With Win Against New Hope Christian

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's basketball team closed at the season at home, defeating New Hope Christian College 62-54 on Monday night to close out their first season as members of the Cascade Collegiate Conference and the NAIA.
 
In her final game for MU, senior forward Lexie Govert led her team with a season high 20 points along with three rebounds and two steals.
 
Following her was Lacie Kamper who tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Miranda Schmillen and senior Nicole Verrett each totaled seven points. Schmillen added six rebounds and four assists while Bethany George grabbed 11 boards for a team high.
 
Both teams battled back and forth in the first quarter, with neither one able to gain an edge as the scored was tied 12-12 heading into the second quarter. The Lions finally started to pull away in the second quarter, scoring 10 consecutive points with just over a minute to play in the half.
 
"I'm so thankful to be able to finish with a great result for the team," said head coach Tim Bieri. "Lexie and Nicole really led us tonight and it has been an honor to have them as part of our family. We are excited to continue this growing process and we look forward to our trips overseas this spring and summer."
 
The Deacons battled back to within one point in the third quarter but jumpers by Karissa Cox and Michaela Weller kept the lead in favor of MU.
 
New Hope was led by Ellie Gould with 23 points and 14 rebounds while Kenzie Weston and Madison Grant and 12 and eight points respectively.
 
Multnomah held the Deacons to a 26 shooting percentage while outrebounds them 58-45.
