Portland, Ore. – The
Multnomah University women's basketball team faced another strong opponent on Saturday afternoon in the form of the Hustlin' Owls from the Oregon Institute of Technology who are 11-4 overall and 4-1 in Cascade Conference (CCC) play. Despite a gritty performance from the Lions, the Owls were simply too much for MU on both ends of the floor, ending the contest by handing Multnomah a 61-75 loss, putting MU at 4-9 overall and 2-4 in CCC play.
The Short Story
Multnomah managed to shoot the ball much better than the previous night and finished shooting 44% from the field and 83% from the free-throw line. The Lions also took much better care of the ball, only turning it over 12 times while finding a way to dish out 17 assists. MU was out-matched in the rebounding category as OIT dominated the boards in both halves, and giving themselves many second chance opportunities. MU put together a strong offensive attack in both the second and fourth quarters (winning both quarters), but the sharp shooting three-point shooting (9-18, 50%) and free-throw shooting (24-28, 85.7%) of the Owls was enough to keep the game out of reach for the host school.
How It Happened
• Miranda Schmillen led the Lions with 19 points and 6 assists.
• Lacie Kamper gave another strong performance with 15 points (12 of which came in the first half) 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
• Ana Wakefiled came off the bench and contributed well with 12 points, including 2 threes.
