LANCASTER, Calif. – The Multnomah University men's basketball team will come away from their first road trip to California with two losses, falling to West Coast Baptist 78-96 on Friday night, before a tough overtime loss, 90-99, to Antelope Valley on Saturday in the West Coast Baptist Classic.
The Lions fall to 2-3 overall on the year as they head to Northern California next week to face Menlo College and Cal-Maritime.
Game One:
Junior forward
Jon Viles led the Lions with 16 points off of 7-of-13 shooting while collecting a team high 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.
Sophomores
Ben Grandle and
Jason Wyncoop each added 12 points, all coming from behind the arc as the Lions totaled 12 three-pointers against the Eagles.
Grandle added seven rebounds while
Darius Redrick finished with eight points and four assists.
West Coast shot 41 percent from the field as Daniel Foster led all players with 22 points along with four assists and five boards.
Aj Woodson finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds while four other Eagles earned double digit in points in Nicholas Corl (17), Imaan Vicente (11), and Seth Hanna and Tim Carr with 10 points apiece.
West Coast also won the turnover battle 6-9 and outrebounded the Lions 48 to 40.
Game Two:
In the second game of the classic, Redrick led the Lions offensively for the second time this season, registering 24 points, finishing 8-of-16 from the floor.
Following him was Grandle who notched 21 points with seven three-pointers while
Thomas Simien ended the night with 15 points.
Viles fell just short of another double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds while
Ezekiel Martin grabbed nine boards to go along with five points.
Trailing in the final minute of play, Antelope Valley launched a last effort three that bounced off the back of the rim before falling through to send the game to overtime.
Antelope Valley outscored the Lions 13-4 in the overtime period, led by Franky Teran who tallied a game high 25 points.
