PORLTAND, Ore. – In his first start for the program, sophomore
Andy Brown registered a game high 21 points to lead the Multnomah University men's basketball team in an 85-77 win over New Hope Christian College on Saturday afternoon.
Brown added 10 rebounds to complete his first career double-double as the Lions (2-1) avenged last night's loss to the Deacons (1-4).
Three other Lions scored double digits with
Ezekiel Martin and
Darius Redrick each scoring 14 points and
Ben Grandle totaling 13 points.
With just over six minutes to play, the Deacons eased an eight point deficit, taking the lead 71-68 after a three by Isiah Large.
In the very next possession, Brown connected on his only three-point attempt in the game, tying the game back up at 71-71 before a three by Grandle gave the Lions the lead for the remainder of the game.
Large led the Deacons with 17 points and eight rebounds while Phillip Cook totaled 16 points and Steven Shares and Sasha Lomakin each had 12 points.
The Lions finished 13-of-16 from the free throw line, 8-of-20 from behind the arc and shot 43 percent from the field.
Martin added nine rebounds and
Jon Viles finished with eight points and a tie for a team high in rebounds with 10.
Action continues later today for the Lions as they travel across town to play an exhibition game with the University of Portland.
