Lions Fall 2-0 in Rainy Battle with Northwest Christian

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University men's soccer team dropped a Cascade Collegiate Conference match 2-0 against Northwest Christian on a rain soaked night at Delta Park.

The Lions (2-11, 0-9 CCC) tallied 11 shots on the night while the visitors notched 16 shots with seven landing on target.

The Beacons (7-4-2, 3-3-2 CCC) opened up the scoring in the first half at the 13th minute mark as Alex Abalan recovered a ball after a deflection before knocking the ball in from 10 yards out.

NCU continued to let the ball fly in the first period, totaling nine shots in the half but couldn't make them count as the teams headed to half time with the score remaining 1-0.

Abalan finished the night with a team high four shots while Yayo Olvera recorded three saves to earn the shutout for the Beacons.

"Another quality game by the guys. We limited NCU to very few good scoring opportunities but they just took advantage of two of them," said head coach Tom Stephens. "Proud of the way the guys fought all the way to the last whistle."

The Lions found a little more life in the second half as the team totaled nine shots. Marcus Krause finished with three shots while Noe Favila had two shots end in saves. Manny Guillermo earned five saves in goal for MU adding to his CCC best 106 saves on the season.

Northwest Christian added to their lead in the 55th minute as Raul Segoviano found another deflected ball, finding the back of the net from the top of the box.

Multnomah returns to Delta Park tomorrow night as they welcome in 18th ranked Corban while the Beacons head to Washington to play Walla Walla.
