CALDWELL, Idaho – The Multnomah University men's soccer team continued their road trip in Caldwell, Idaho as they lost a 4-0 match to the Coyotes of The College of Idaho late Sunday morning.
Despite the loss, the Lions played one of their best game of the seasons against the Yotes, tallying five shots with two on goal. Defensively, MU had a much needed improvement over their performance earlier in the week to Rocky Mountain College.
The loss drops Multnomah to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Coyotes improved to 5-1, 4-1 CCC.
How it Happened: C of I started strong getting the first shot of the game within two minutes of the start of the period but couldn't find the net. The first goal of the game would come a few minutes later as the Yotes' Joaa Cardoso one-touched a cross from the left side of the field in the 14th minute.Ten minutes later, C of I added another goal that found the top corner of the net after a quick pass from Admi Selimovic found Mehmed Selimovic in the middle.
The Lions found some life in their attack, forcing three shots in the first period with two landing on target but both would end in saves by the Yotes.
C of I's attack continued in the second half as the Coyotes added two more goals including a second by Cardoso in the 69th minute followed by the final goal in the 86th after a through ball landed at the feet of Ryan Geist.
From the Coach: " Really proad of the squad, hands down the best 90 minutes our team has played, especially after a very grueling travel," said head coach Tom Stephens, "We came together as a team today. We are focusing on perserverance and unity. I love coaching these guys and I am encouraged for what the future has for us."
By the Numbers: Multnomah tallying five shots on the day, two coming from freshman Austin McKee who had one shot on goal. Keeper Manny Guillermo finished with seven saves on the day.
The Yotes totaled 39 shots in the match with 11 landing on target. Mehmed Selimovic had a team high eight shots while Joe Bolin added six.
Coming Up Next: The Lions will host their first game at home at Madison High School in Portland, Ore., on Friday as they welcome in The Evergreen State College of Friday, Oct. 2, followed by Northwest University of Saturday.
