PORTLAND, Ore. – Despite a strong start and an electric crowd in Jim Skagen Court, the Multnomah University volleyball team fell in three straight sets to the visiting Coyotes of College of Idaho 15-25, 10-25, 12-25 on Friday night.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 0-7 in the Cascade Conference and 1-7 on the season. The Yotes improve to 5-2 in conference play and 7-8 overall.
How it Happened: The Lions had the crowd behind them as the battled in the first set taking an early 4-2 lead over the Yotes. Both teams fought back and forth, neither one really able to take control. With the score set at 13-15 in favor the C of I, the Coyotes took over with a 7-0 run, eventually winning the set 25-15.
In the second set, C of I scored the first point and never look back reaching a commanding 8-1 lead over the Lions. Throughout the set, MU allowed the Yotes to put together runs giving up six or more straight points on three different occasions.
Nothing really changed for the Lions in the final set as C of I strung together nine consecutive points taking a 20-8 lead. MU finished on a four point run before giving up the final point in the match.

Miranda Halverson had a good game both in the front and back row while
Marissa Rhodes had a few big plays for us.
By the Numbers: Halverson had one her best nights for the Lions tallying nine kills and eight digs while Rhodes totaled 20 assists and added a team high 11 digs.
Patty Batoon also finished with nine kills and
Devyn Sigurdson had six digs.
For C of I, Randi Sturtz led the way with eight kills while Katy Robinson totaled six kills and Kylie Porter and Abbey Fenton each had four. Sierra Porter had a team high in assists with 12 followed closely by Jayde Sheppeared with 11 assists. Kilee Lopez and Jayde Folsom each had double digit digs with 14 and 10 respectively.
Coming Up Next: C of I will face Warner Pacific next while the Lions will welcome in seventh-ranked Eastern Oregon on Saturday.
