Kamper Leads Lions in 77-33 Rout of Northwest Indian

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University women's basketball team displayed a dominating performance on Thursday night in the second game of the MU Invitational, defeating Northwest Indian College 77-33 in Jim Skagen Court.
 
The Lions improve to 2-3 overall on the season after their second consecutive victory.
 
How it Happened: The Lions scored the first points of the game and never looked back, keeping a lead for the entire night. MU took a 9-0 before NWIC made their first points, a three by Kira Butler. With the score 13-4, MU closed out the opening period on an 8-0 run to take a 21-4 advantage.
 
The Lions finished the night with season highs in rebounds with 65, 20 coming offensively, and in assists with 18. MU's defense also held their opponent to a season low in points with 33, the previous low was 47 against Salish Kootenai College.
 
Both teams struggled to find anyone offensively in the second quarter of play as NWIC totaled six points and the Lions finished the quarter with 12, making it 33-10 at halftime. The Lions finished the first half going 5-of-6 from the free throw line but ended 0-for-12 from behind the arc.
 
The Lions finished with 19-points off of turnovers and 23 second chance points and totaled 43 points off the bench.
 
MU continued to add to their lead scoring eight 3-pointers in the second half while shooting 47 percent from the field. With just over a minute left in the contest, the Lions gained their largest lead of the night (51-22) before a final shot by NWIC ended the game 51-24.
 
Key Performers: Lacie Kamper led the way for the Lions recording her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Karissa Cox added 11 points with three 3-pointers.
 
Katherine Edmonds had one of her most efficient games shooting 4-for-6 with nine points and adding eight boards and Sadie Jenks and Bethany George finished with eight points and seven points respectively.
 
For Northwest Indian, Andrea Tulee tallied 10 points and Jolene Nagy finished with eight points and six rebounds.
 
From the Coach: "This was a very important game for us to find a rhythm on both sides of the floor, and I think we were able to do that. The girls played with a lot of confidence tonight and we'll be looking to carry that over for our next game. Like I've said before, this is a special group and I'm very proud of them!"
 
Coming Up Next: The Lions will take tomorrow off from the MU Invite before playing Willamette University on Saturday at 2 p.m. at home.
