Warriors String Together Three Set Win Over the Lions

PORTLAND, Ore. – The story continues for MU's volleyball team as they struggled to find a rhythm, falling to visiting Corban University in three sets 25-16, 25-19, 25-13, on Friday night.

The Warriors are close to clinching a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference postseason tournament, improving to 12-11, 10-7 CCC, while the Lions fall to 2-18 on the season.

How it Happened: MU jumped out ahead at the beginning of set one with a 3-1 lead but a run by Corban topped off by three errors on the Lions gave them the advantage 11-6. As the Lions fought back to within two points, yet another run by the Warriors put the set out of reach as Corban takes a 25-16 set victory.

The Lions had their best attacking percentage in set two (.146), but couldn't overcome a 0-4 start. Down 11-18, MU tried to keep the set alive with a 7-2 bringing the score to 19-16 in favor of Corban. The Warriors scored the final three points of the set to go up 2-0.

Corban put together their biggest run of the night in the third set, going up 13-4 after a 10-2 string gave them the victory.

By the Numbers: Freshman defensive specialist Devyn Sigurdson put together a solid night on the back line recording a team high 12 digs. Outside hitter Miranda Halverson led the offense for the Lions with 10 kills followed by Patty Batoon with seven kills. Freshman setter Marissa Rhodes broke the 20-mark in assists again tonight, tallying 22 assists.

For the Warriors, setter Madison McLain orchestrated a .273 attack percentage for her team, coming up with 38 assists total. Amber Parker converted 15 kills on 25 swings while Haley Wells finished with 19 digs.

From the Coach: "Bowling came in and played great, serving passing and digging, and Sigurdson had some huge saves for us. Halverson had some good swings as well, it just wasn't enough to boost our hitting percentage. Hoping we can bounce back tomorrow."

Coming Up Next: The Lions will host their last CCC game of the season tomorrow night as they welcome in Northwest Christian at 5 p.m.
